Focaccia is one of the treasures of Italian cuisine, a simple bread, but full of flavor and versatility. If you want to bring a little piece of Italy into your kitchen, this focaccia recipe is the perfect place to start.
Ingredients:
- 500g wheat flour
- 300ml of warm water
- 10g dry organic yeast
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- Fresh rosemary (optional)
- Coarse salt for sprinkling
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix the dry yeast with the warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture is frothy.
- Add the salt and half the flour to the yeast and water mixture. Stir well until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Add the rest of the flour gradually, kneading the dough well until it is smooth and elastic. If necessary, add a little more flour to prevent the dough from sticking to your hands or work surface.
- Place the dough in a bowl lightly greased with olive oil, cover with a clean cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough doubles in volume.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Grease a baking tray with olive oil and transfer the dough to the tray. Using your hands, press the dough so that it evenly covers the bottom of the pan.
- Make small holes in the surface of the dough with your fingers. Drizzle the dough with the remaining olive oil and sprinkle with coarse salt. If desired, add fresh rosemary leaves on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the focaccia is golden on top and crispy on the bottom.
- Remove the focaccia from the oven and let it cool slightly before cutting into pieces and serving.
